Share the LOVE of Art

The words “share” and “love of art”

describe the essence of this dynamic non-profit organization that began in 1971.

About Us

Since 1971

The Prescott Art Docents believe in transparency, openness, and responsiveness to the teachers who invite us into their classrooms and to the community groups who request our presentations to share our knowledge and love of art. We realize that teachers depend upon us to be competent and professional in our words and actions.

The Prescott Art Docents have a wealth of resources to use when presenting art to the community. We recognize and accept the responsibility for the care of those resources. As adult volunteers, we embrace and celebrate the diversity of our members and will treat each other with the courtesy and respect we expect from others as we take our mission into the community.

Masterpiece Program Docents visit the same classroom 5-7 times each year (30 minutes), bringing selected art reproductions from our 800-piece collection to initiate discussions about art, techniques, styles, and other age-appropriate topics leaving behind one reproduction for the classroom to enjoy until the next visit. We provide these opportunities in accordance with the Arizona Department of Education’s Objectives.

Adult Art Talks Docents visit local Senior Living facilities offering insights into a variety of Master Artists from around the world.

Art Days in the Library Docents present hands-on art projects reflecting the Elements of Art and Principles of Design while exploring artistic styles, and vocabulary. This is a program held once a month at the Prescott Public Library throughout the school year.

Caldecott Books & Art for Kids (K-2) Docents explore illustrations in Caldecott Award books increasing children’s experience with art elements, principles of design, artistic styles, and vocabulary while capturing the emotional appeal in a book’s pages. This program is held once a month at the Prescott Public Library.
